"Angelenos aren't strangers to the works of British street artistBanksy. His participation in MOCA's street art show was a (predictably secret) given,and the man plastered L.A. during the run-up to the Oscars, inspiring residentsof Westwood Village to petition for his works to remain. And don't get us startedon the career of Mr. Brainwash, Bansky's special present to our fair city.

LA Weekly photographer Colin Young-Wolff just got back from atour of Europe, and he sent over a photo from Occupy London that is reputed to bea Banksy sculpture and has since been tagged over.

A blogger at ArtLyst explains: "The downside of leavingthis amazing work of art in the middle of the grounds of St Paul's unprotected isthat other protesters have drawn graffiti all over the sculpture to highlight theirown particular brand of causes. Banksy has never been concerned with creating lastingor permanent works of art."

True that. The piece was made to be vandalized. But at leastColin got a great pic before it happened.

I've covered events for Good Jobs LA, the SEIU ULTCW, the SEIU Local 99 and USWW over the last few months and just published a gallery with the images. The LA Weekly link includes images from rallies for better jobs and schools, the "Fresh Start LA" event providing kids in South LA with backpacks and school supplies (and a free lunch), a job fair, a bus trip to Sacramento and a glimpse at a day in the life with an unemployed man in South Central. The X Factor hired me to shoot their open call dance auditions in Los Angeles which brought out over 800 female dancers and a ton of male dancers as well. above are some photos i shot of wayne coyne during their load in and sound check, including a hilarious moment of him loading gear into a truck with a tractor... then in between their evening performances, the flaming lips teamed up w/ edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros for a sunrise jam at 6am (bottom photo). the impromptu session was pre-empted by some impromptu rehearsing on the floor of the masonic lodge and i captured this (low quality) taste on my iphone.

3/26 "Our Community, Our Jobs" LA Rally for the SEIU ULTCW

a beautiful and diverse crowd of over 20,000 people took to the streets of downtown los angeles saturday to peacefully protest in solidarity with the labor unions in wisconsin. i covered a portion of them for the ULTCW (United Long Term Care Workers).

saturday night awesome "revolutions- the album cover art of shepard fairey" opened @ robert berman's gallery and featured dj sets by shepard himself, dan the automator and a fun performance by metalachi. not to mention appearances by owen wilson, billy idol, dave navarro and a ton of artists, open bar and amazing art pieces with fairey's typical flair. much more in the full gallery here on la weekly.
