9/26 Bikini Car Wash Fundraiser for LA Weekly

not your average bikini car wash... this one (thrown by pingping, the rabbit and the hear gallery with proceeds going to help dj notorious jen) featured a slew of dj's, graffiti art, live portraits, hot dogs and jello shots, talented bikini'd gals and speedo'd guys, kids pools, massages and a bunch of photogs. look for more in the near future! 9/26 Scion Art Gallery Artist Reception

the closing party for scion's installation 5 featured a bunch of the artists for a private vip reception with dim sung, good beer, dj dirty dave and some bday balloons. above: french w/ his birthday balloon (happy bday!), codak and friends, dirty dave and a guest having fun w/ one of the pieces.

a great photo of the grime, grit, dust and rain in caracas, to go along with his photo story in the new york times, which makes me want to do some travel reportage.

gangs in el salvador by Christian Poveda (1/12/57-9/2/09).

poveda was an incredibly brave filmmaker/photographer, witnessing 3 of his filmmaking crew members murdered during the filming of 'la vida loca' and still continuing to journey back before finally being ambushed and murdered by those he was documenting. a salvadorian photographer remarked: "Christian is just one of the 10 who will die today. If you look long enough down the throat of the lion, he will eat you." rest in peace to a heroic documentarian.

9/12 H.O.P.E and JAYO Charity Volleyball Tournament

i donated my saturday to one of my favorite non profits, H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everywhere) who teamed up with JAYO and The Sinjin Smith Volleyball Academy to raise money for Autism and HOPE and other great causes. here are some of my photos and i even got to play a little bit toward the end of the day.

toms shoes is one of my favorite 'for profit' companies (you might have seen this commercial) so i was excited to cover the family reunion fashion night out party for them. toms donates one pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair bought, so check out the website, buy some shoes and help out some kids!
